Let the First Ford Service Center Help You Prepare Your Ford for Winter Weather

Winter is here, and while we may not be up north where they get plenty of snow, winter weather in Louisiana can still be treacherous. Increased precipitation and lower temperatures can create hazardous driving conditions, so it's important to be prepared before bad weather hits. First Ford has several suggestions for ways you can be ready before Mother Nature's bad side shows, and we're happy to help you get your car, truck, or SUV ready for the winter months ahead.

  • Prepare by having your heating system checked for leaks, and top it off or install new coolant. Antifreeze is important because it helps you to avoid system failure by preventing freezing, so make sure you have enough to get you through the winter.
  • We recommend that you park your vehicle in your garage if you have one; this will help to protect your paint, will prevent ice from accumulating on your windshield, and will keep water in your radiator and/or excess fluids from freezing. If you don't have a garage, consider purchasing a car cover that will protect the exterior of your vehicle from the elements.
  • Inspect your windshield wipers and replace, as needed; also, swap out your windshield wiper fluid for one with antifreeze to avoid freezing during cleaning.
  • Your tires require adequate tread to maintain traction in wet or icy conditions, so it's imperative that you check your tires for proper tread and air. Without enough tread, your tires will lose traction, and slick roads can become very treacherous. Inflating your tires properly is also important, so make sure to check the air, too.
  • An emergency kit is a great thing to have on hand and can come in handy in all kinds of situations including inclement weather. You can purchase one, or create your own with dry matches and candles, a flashlight with extra batteries, blankets, water, and non-perishable snacks. These can become essential items if you become stranded due to winter weather.

Our service department is happy to recommend more ways to prepare your vehicle for winter, and we can help you determine which services your car, truck, or SUV may need. Give us a call or stop by, and be ready for winter weather before it gets here!
